Weave Gotcha Covered- Niykee Heaton "Swimming Pools"

Much like its predecessors Music Videos That Don't Suck and Awesome 90's Songs You May Have Forgotten, Weave Gotcha Covered is a (fairly) new music feature we've been putting out from time to time to shine some light on our favorite musical covers. This installment features Niykee Heaton covering Kendrick Lamar's "Swimming Pools". The 18 year old songstress from the Chi blew up last month after her YouTube cover of Chief Keef's "Love Sosa" went viral, courtesy of Worst Star Hip-Hop.com.

Heaton uploads new covers weekly to her YouTube page, which now has over three million views. She's been in contact with record execs and rappers alike, and was even flown down to Miami the day after Christmas to perform "I Need Your Love" with Ace Hood. Niykee is easy on both the ears and the eyes, and is sure to have a bright future in the music biz.

There were more than 50 videos for me to chose from, but ultimately I decided to go with "Swimming Pools" because aside from doing an excellent job, the lyrics just sound so genuine coming from her. "Swimming Pools" isn't supposed to be a happy, club banging song. It's about succumbing to the peer pressures of alcohol and what can go wrong when too much is consumed. When stripped down to nothing but an acoustic guitar, and slowed down to ease the interpretation of the song, it all becomes much more apparent.
