The 2 Man Weave Podcast #26 with Gary McClune

DON'T CALL IT A COMEBACK- I'VE BEEN HERE FOR YEARS

That’s right baby, if Simmons can come back so can I! After an inexcusably long hiatus, The 2 Man Weave Podcast returns with some much needed fantasy football talk with contributor, and famed Tony Stewart troll, Gary McClune. In this episode we try to make sense of some crowded backfields, hate on Matthew Berry’s Love/Hate column and introduce a couple new dynasty related segments.

You can expect weekly podcasts on the horizon, and as penance for my laziness please enjoy endless laughter by reading the intro to "A Giant Letdown," by Matthew Berry

Check Out My Appearance On The All Work, All Play Podcast

Longgggggg overdue, but back in July my good friends over at the All Work, All Play Podcast were nice enough to have my on as a guest in their Chicago studio. I was battling some wicked stomach illnesses that day, but fought through like a champ, and was able to relive some of my best moments including the Paris Proposal, Gronk catfish and how I weaseled a flight discount from my first job even after I'd been fired.

Dan and Adam are great podcast hosts and even better people, so listen to my episode here and then throw them a 'like' on Facebook (assuming you over-posting parents haven't driven you off the site yet).

Jay-Z Shamelessly Compares Tidal's Struggles To The Killings of Freddie Gray, Mike Brown, and Trayvon Martin

Rap mogul and the reincarnation of Joe Camel, Jay-Z, treated subscribers of his streaming service Tidal to a private concert at New York City's Terminal 5 Friday night. Hov performed a bevvy of old tracks during his B-Sides show, along with a freestlyle taking shots at his new competitors Spotify, YouTube and Apple.

Below you can find the transcribed lyrics, courtesy of Billboard, emphasis mine.

“I don’t need no middlemen to talk to my n—-s / I understand if you don’t understand I figure my n—-a / That’s where we differ / I take what’s mine you accept what they give you / I get you/  I don’t take no checks / I take my respect / Pharrell even told me “Go with the best bet” / Jimmy Iovine offered the safety net / Google came around with a crazy check / I feel like YouTube is the culp-a-rit /. N—-s pay you a tenth of what you supposed to get / You know n—a die for equal pay, right? You know what I’m worth / I ain’t your slave right / You know I aint shucking and jivin’ and high fivin’ / You know this ain’t back in the days right / But i can’t tell by the way they kill Freddie Gray right / Shot down / Mike Brown / Like the way they did Tray right? / Y’all gone’ keep choking’ n—-s / we gon’ turn style / I ain’t your token n—a / You know i came in this game independent right / Tidal / My own label / same difference / Oh n—-s is skeptical of they own shit / You bought nine iPhones and Steve Jobs is rich / Phil Knight worth trillions you still bought those kicks / Spotify’s nine billion and they ain’t say shit / ‘Lucyyy you got some splainin’ to do’ / The only one they hatin’ on look the same as you / That’s cool / I know they tryin’ to bamboozle you / Spending billions on meryin’ to confusin you / I had to tell myself “Hov, get used to it” / It’s politics as usual.”

Last month Vogue reported that Jay-Z and Beyonce's cumulative net worth eclipsed ONE BILLION DOLLARS!!! But that hasn't stopped Mr. Carter from shamelessly comparing the struggles of his digital en devour to the tragic death's of several, young African-American men.

It shouldn't really come as a surprise. After all, it was almost a decade ago when Hov first informed us that he wasn't a businessman, but rather a *business* man. Sadly, that still doesn't make it any less insulting.

I guess we can all take some  small solace in the fact that he didn't pimp out Tamir Rice's death for profit. That, and the fact that Tidal is absolutely nailing their Hindenburg impression.

This White Boy Just Changed The Dunking Game For The Rest Of Eternity

Jordan Kilganon is no stranger to danger. The 6'1 baller has made a career out of dunking, wowing crowds across the country with his authoritarian throw downs. But it's his most recent dunk, the "Lost and Found," that has twitter users repetitively hammering down on the screaming face emoji.

This 360, self alley-opp puts any of Zach LaVine's "at the time great, but now that we have this to compare it to merely okay" slams from this year's NBA Dunk Contest to shame. Any chance we can get this guy on a 10 day contract so he's eligible in 2016?

Dave Matthews Band Debuts "Black and Bluebird"

The band rocked New York City's Ed Sullivan Theater for just over an hour Thursday night,  as part of the "Legends of Letterman" series- a farewell tour for the iconic late night host.  DMB first appeared on the Late Show twenty years ago and this performance was a beautiful way to bring everything full circle.

They played a half dozen or so songs including "Don't Drink The Water," "Stay or Leave," and "Grey Street," but the highlight of their set was the debut of their new song "Black and Bluebird." The soft song sounds very similar to the majority of the tracks from 2012's Away From The World, and features quintessential Dave lyrics about mortality, space and love.

Dave Matthews Band kicks off their 2015 Summer Tour next week in Austin, Texas. They'll play 47 shows in 39 cities, wrapping things up in Phoenix September 13th.

As for Letterman, he'll ride off into the late night moonlight May 20th.

Bill Simmons Ponders Life As A Coke Head

Lost in Friday's Bill Simmons Mailbag, which centered around the ultimate #FirstWorldSportsProblem of whether or not he should go to Vegas for the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight or stay in Los Angeles for Game 7 of the Clippers/Spurs series (despite having a family obligation that rendered the whole question useless), comes this incredibly insensitive hypothetical about being in the same room as cocaine and resurrecting the late Len Bias from his grave. Take it away Bill!
"Now, some might say I cheated by not including the other Bill Simmons — a.k.a. “El Wingador,” the renowned chicken wing eating champion who went to jail for cocaine trafficking. But I’ve been in the same room with cocaine only once in my life — during Game 7, 2004 ALCS, the bathroom of an undisclosed Boston bar, when I had gone in there to pee and inadvertently walked in on two guys snorting lines off the bathroom sink. (In their defense, the Red Sox were trying to come back from 3-0 and there were no laws in Boston that night.) It’s true: Lenny Bias blew three to four Celtics titles, but he also ruined any chance of me ever trying cocaine.
That raises a separate mailbag question (I’ll save you the energy): Would I rather have those three to four titles and maybe four to five extra Bird-McHale years (since Bias would have extended their careers) even if it meant there would have been a good chance I’d have at least tried cocaine in college (and then who knows?) … or would I rather keep things the way they were? And the answer, obviously, is OF COURSE I WOULD HAVE WANTED THE EXTRA TITLES AND THE EXTRA BIRD-MCHALE YEARS!!! ARE YOU CRAZY??????? Oh screw it, I’m going to hell anyway."
The above text comes at the tail end of a response to a question about what the tanking nickname should be for NBA team's interested in acquiring the services of Australian phenom Ben Simmons.

Somehow, Bill managed to turn this question into a #humblebrag about never having tried cocaine, while (not so) secretly wishing that wasn't the case. What he is essentially asking is would be worth it to reverse one of the biggest sports tragedies of the past thirty years, and bring a young man back from the dead, on the off chance that he might not have the self control to stay away from blow.

Yup... these are my writers.

Hot Fiya- OMI "Cheerleader"

Amid the sea of Snap Chat stories and Sam Smith haircuts emerged one song that rose above the rest during my weekend visit to Cortland. OMI's ode to his own, personal cheerleader got the party bumpin' early and often. This was by far the most popular song with the youngsters- though the 20 or so frat bros moshing in the corner to Drake's "Know Youself" (I WAS RUNNIN.... THROUGH THE 6.... WITH MY WOES) definitely gave it a run for its money.

A How-To Guide For Watching "House of Cards" And Not Spoiling It For Your Friends

*This article was originally published on February 18th, 2014. Different season, same rules apply*

The highly popular political drama House of Cards returned to rave reviews on Valentine's Day- when they released chapters 14-26 of Francis Underwood's quest for the Presidency of the United States at 12:01 am on Netflix. Surely it was a better present than one typically receives on the Feast of Saint Valentine, but unlike that box of chocolate that was gone before morning, this particular box of Cards gets eaten at a different speed depending on your availability and appetite. Below I've posted a "how-to" guide for enjoying, and discussing, the blackest heart in the White House.

What makes House of Cards different than normal TV shows?

House of Cards is a Netflix original series which, unlike typical television series that air new episodes once a week, makes a season's worth of episodes available for streaming at the same time. This makes for great binge watching sessions, but also makes discussing the show, especially in online forums, virtually impossible.

But isn't having access to all the episodes at once a good thing?

It is a good thing, it just has some bad side effects.

Since everyone gets to consume the show at their leisure, its difficult to have conversations about it with friends or followers until you've both completed the series. But that hasn't stopped people from taking to Twitter to post their initial reactions to various happenings without any forewarning.

So the real issue here is spoilers?

Yes! If you're reading this post, then chances are you're already painfully aware of our society's impulsive instinct to post every thought, reaction or question to some kind of social networking site the second it crosses our brain. We saw it with Game of Thrones infamous "Red Wedding" episode and we saw it for pretty much the entire final season of Breaking Bad. If something big happens on a major television show, the internet is going to be buzzing about it. But what happens when that bee stings the masses at different times? What you get is chaos. From the time you start that first episode, up until the time you finish the season, you must treat your timeline like a mine field.

So you're saying its never going to be okay to tweet about House of Cards?

That's not what I'm saying at all- what I'm saying is, be mindful to those who weren't able to sit motionless on their couch for thirteen straight hours last weekend. Give it a little time to marinate. If you would like to tweet about a major event that happened in the show (character death, revelation, pregnancy, etc) give the public at least two weeks to catch up. Though in all fairness, a month seems more appropriate.

If you want to tweet about something that doesn't directly affect the plot (nudity, sex scene, epic one liner) then by all means go right ahead. Like I did, with the lovely Kate Mara's brief ass shot in the first episode of season two.

Okay so no tweeting about major plot spoilers- got it. But what about real life conversations?

When it comes to real life convos you must make it perfectly clear what episode you're on before mentioning anything that has happened so far in the show. I'm not exaggerating when I tell you that 50% of all human interactions I've had since about 10 am on Friday have started off with "So what episode are you up to in House of Cards." Tread lightly, because any overzealous, premature spoilers could lead to the completely justifiable loss of a friend.

So you're advising something like a real-life Scarlet Letter, only instead of having to wear a "A" for adulterer on your chest, you should be forced to publicly display what episode you're up to?

That's EXACTLY what I'm advising.

-fresh (@danye33)

tl/dr: Don't spoil House of Cards on Twitter, always make sure your friends are as caught up as you are before talking about the show.

Awesome 90's Songs You May Have Forgotten- Blessed Union of Souls "Hey Leonardo (She likes me for me)"

15+ years later and still song still brings the heat! Takes me right back to middle school summers listening to z100 on the way to the pool. Of course once I got to the pool I'd procrastinate and meticulously scope out the perfect possible moment when all the other kids were distracted, then quickly take my shirt off and pray that no one noticed my man boobs as I jumped in. Fun times!

Horri-Bull News, D Rose to Undergo Potential Season Ending Knee Surgery

Derrick Rose is heading back to the IR for the third time in as many seasons. The team announcing Tuesday night that the 2011 league MVP will go under the knife to repair a torn meniscus. Rose complained of right knee pain earlier in the day, and an MRI later confirmed his worst fears.

Rose missed the entire 2013 season and made it just ten games into the 2014 season before another right knee injured derailed his comeback campaign.

He was averaging 18.4 ppg and 5 apg for the 36-21 Bulls. Look for journeyman Aaron Brooks and Kirk Hinrich to play an increased role in his absence.

Chicago plans to reevaluate Rose's status post-surgery.

I'd Be Remiss If I Didn't Post The New Charlie Hebdo Cover

Just an amazing statement by a magazine, and country, that lost so much, so quickly. To bounce back like this is not only commendable, it's inspiring. The fact that this publication continues to poke the bear in the name of free speech and pull light from the darkness is nothing short of heroic, and they should be remembered as such.

Je suis Charlie indeed.

Kevin Garnett Grows Pair, Headbutts Dwight

First things first, Kevin Garnett is still a punk ass bitch. But the 19 year NBA vet finally put his money where his mouth is, and threw hands (well, head) during an altercation Monday night against the world's tallest 12 year old.

The headbutt heard round the world, or at the very least, around twitter, took place midway through the first quarter of the Net's 113-99 loss to the Rockets. Garnett, the perennial hardwood bully, was the clear instigator of the incident, and was tossed for his actions. Dwight received a technical foul, but was allowed to remain in the game, finishing up with 8 points and a season low 5 rebounds.

It's unclear from the video what set KG off, but judging by his reaction it had to be something major or personal. It typically takes a hell of a lot to get him to go from all bark to bite.

As The Ball Drops, Kanye Drops "Only One"

Kanye waited until the final hours to drop what looks to be the most important hip-hop song of 2014. Not only does Yeezy finish up where "Hey Mamma" left off, he got a LIVING MEMBER OF THE BEATLES to perform on the track.

"Only One" sounds like it belongs on 808's & Heartbreak. The song, which is written from the perspective of late mother Donda speaking to him, is vintage, heartfelt 'Ye.  His mom assures him of her approval of the man he has become, while reminding him to "tell Nori" (her grand daugther) about her.

It's a testament to how far Kanye has come since her untimely passing, and another step in the right direction for his grieving process.

Donda truly does have a lot to be proud of.
